TAX TIPS OFFERED FOR CHARITABLE GIVING

(This information was adapted from an article in The Biblical Recorder, the news journal of North Carolina Baptists on January 5, 2008.)

More than one-third of charitable giving goes to religious organizations.  The IRS reminds taxpayers about what to expect when making such deductions on a federal tax return.

Taxpayers can search for charitable organizations on-line at IRS.gov with Publication 78.

Called to Serve is an IRS qualified non-profit religious organization, a 501 C-3, qualified to accept tax deductible donations.  Its work is with the Tanzanians, their children and their poor, all who need charitable attention.

On Form 1040, file and itemize.  Called to Serve will supply you with the necessary receipts of what you have given.

Called to Serve provides the following for all who give:

  • Receipt of donation
  • Date of donation
  • Name of the charitable organization

To verify the donation, bank statements also give evidence to the IRS

All the information you need can be found in IRS Publications 526, available on line at www.IRS.gov or can be requested by calling toll-free 800-TAX-FORM.

This information may help you help Called to Serve.
